Description
Please see the photos, which form part of the description, and our Instagram reel posted the day after Halloween, 2026: https://www.instagram.com/brokenhillvintage- Our rare, single-consignment, estate collection is from circa 1870-1895.
- After Queen Victoria lost her beloved Prince Albert to typhoid in December, 1861, she only wore black...and so the Victorian cult of mourning began.
- ERA: GENUINE 1870s-1880s.
- SIZE: Approximately 8 x 7 cm.
- COLOUR: Highly reflective black glass panels. Black beads with sheen.
- CONDITION: Sold in "as is" condition. There are three reflective glass panels: one has a corner chipped off (the triangular shard is included and could possibly be glued); the centre one is whole; the third panel has a little over half missing. Some leaf beads are missing, making the wire base partly exposed. The simple C-clasp works but the long pin has some rust. The price reflects all this.
- COMPOSITION: French jet (faceted black glass) and beads (leaf, trapezium and round) on a wire frame.
- FEATURES: Stunning, reflective French jet with delicate leaf beads. The long pin is a distinctive feature of late-1800s brooches as it was needed to secure thick garments such as cloaks.
- CARE: Please handle this delicate, 150-year-old beauty with care. As the panels are glass, they will break if the brooch is dropped.
- CODE: M-P-C
