Description

Please see the photo, which forms part of the description, and our Instagram reel posted a little before Halloween, 2026:
  • Our rare, single-consignment, estate collection is from circa 1870-1895.
  • After Queen Victoria lost her beloved Prince Albert to typhoid in December, 1861, she only wore black...and so the Victorian cult of mourning began.
  • STAGE II: DEEP SOCIAL TRANSITION (after the first year). In time, a late-Victorian lady in mourning could re-introduce subtle lustres, textures and personalised memorial jewellery for daytime and evening receptions.
  • ERA: GENUINE late-1800s.
  • BRAND: This tragic beauty would have been sewn by a seamstress.
  • SIZE: It seems to be a modern size 8-10.
  • COLOUR: A shimmering black with reflective jet (black glass) beads.
  • CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with no visible flaws.
  • COMPOSITION: Probably a heavy silk.
  • FEATURES: There is a lightness to this shimmering beaded bolero - the sleeves have become more tapered at stage II, with puff shoulders and below-wrist flares.
  • CODE: M-P-C
