- SIZE: Regular hanky size.
- BRAND: Unknown.
- COLOUR: Cream with green, red, yellow, brown illustrations.
- CONDITION: Fair-good. When held up to the light, the fabric is thin in parts.
- COMPOSITION: Possibly silk. The fabric is diaphanous so highly unlikely it was a working hanky!
- FEATURES: The centre has a map of Australia, with states and territories marked. The corners have illustrations of Olympic stadium, swimming pool, Olympic village and Olympic Park (according to City Collection|City of Melbourne. The perimeter has various athletes.
- BACKGROUND: Beset by late government funding, political boycotts and a punch up, the 1956 games marked some Olympic firsts, including a new tradition of all teams walking together in the closing ceremony.
