Please see the photo, which forms part of the description, and our Instagram reel posted on Halloween, 2026: https://www.instagram.com/brokenhillvintage- Our rare, single-consignment, estate collection is from circa 1870-1895.
- After Queen Victoria lost her beloved Prince Albert to typhoid in December, 1861, she only wore black...and so the Victorian cult of mourning began.
- STAGE III (Final): HALF-MOURNING. A late-Victorian lady in mourning was finally permitted to stop wearing black but was restricted to shades of purple, lilac, gray and cream.
- ERA: GENUINE late-1800s, possibly 1870s.
- BRAND: This tragic beauty would have been sewn by a seamstress.
- SIZE: It seems to be a modern size 8-10.
- COLOUR: Aubergine bodice and matching dilly bag. The jabot is cream lace.
- CONDITION: Good antique condition. There is a small white mark (damage) on the upper back.
- COMPOSITION: Probably a heavy silk.
- FEATURES: When the collar was removed, this became a sophisticated, tailored jacket with sheen, fabric buttons and a riding jacket-style back peplum. Plus a matching dilly bag with structured base.
- [Natural effect: Mesmerising light through Granny's Art Deco window.]
- CODE: M-P-C
